The Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) and Critical Path Method (CPM) are analytical tools used for scheduling and managing project activities. These two methods were developed independently in 1959, PERT by General Dynamics and the U. S. Navy, and CPM by DuPont Corporation. Both are still in wide use today.
