Paris: Courcier, 1813. First edition.

A very nice copy of this important continuation of Monge's Descriptive Géométrie. The present work consists of five Mémoirs presented to the Institut de France, which approved of the work. It "contains many important contributions to differential geometry, notably the introduction of conjugate and asymptomic lines on a surface, the so-called indicatrix of Dupin, and 'Dupin's theorem, that three families of orthogonal surfaces intersect in the lines of curvature" (DSB). See also Kline: Mathematical Thought from Ancient to Modern Times, pp.568-569. Honeyman 911.

4to: 268 x 205 mm. Contemporary half dark blue morocco, spine ribbed and gilt. With numerous illustrations of perspectival projections of curvatures and oscillations of surfaces on 11 folding engraved plates by Adam after designs by the author. XX, 373, (1) pp.
