ØRSTED, Hans Christian. [OERSTED]
Experimenta circa effectum, etc. Expériences sur l’effet du conflict électrique sur l’aiguille aimantée.
Paris: Crochard, 1820. First French edition of Ørsted's Latin paper 'Extperimenta circa effectum conflictus electrici in acun magneticam', 21 July 1820. The French translation of Ørsted's announcent of his discovery of electromagnetism is arguably the most influential edition of the numerous translations published that same year; it was through Arago's demonstrations, to the Paris Academy, of Ørsted's experiments that Ampère and Biot with Savart first learnt of Ørsted's results, and thus the new field of electrodynamics came to be founded. In: Annales de Chimie et de Physique, Vol. 14, pp. 417-425. The complete volumes 13 and 14 bound in one are offered here: 448 pp. 1 plate; 448 pp. 3 plates. Contemporary half calf with gilt spine lettering. Old and small rubber stamp to title pages. A fine copy. [Item #2227]
